Max Testing

For the past 5 days I have been in Park City testing on the skiing treadmils at the USSA training center with the US Ski Team Science team. Although the tests are brutal .. including 2 max tests where we ski until we pass out off the back.... we learn a lot about training and out bodies. I was able to put up some good Vo2max readings and showed some solid numbers for early training season testing. It's all about how much oxygen an athlete can pump through their lungs. Next stop, skiing at Mt. Bachelor Oregon for our first US Ski team training camp.

Generation X Ski

This year will mark the 10 year anniversary of my first skiing film Generatoin X Ski. We were just young high school skiers at the time but it's still really exciting to look back at all the stupid things we were doing back then.

here are some clips from Generation X Ski

Holmenkollen

Anyone who is involved in the skiing world knows the history of the Holmenkollen 50k. it's one of the oldest and most bad ass ski races out there taking place just outside of Oslo city on some of the toughest ski courses you can put together. Last weekend I was lucky enough to get the chance to race the 50k and it was an incredible experience. With temperatures creeping up toward 50 degrees it was a hot and slushy sufferfest, with record slow times because of the slow snow. No skier under 2.5 hours. The thousands and thousands of people lining the course made it all worth the effort though.

World Cup City Sprint

Since my last post the World Cup has made a few incredible stops including downtown sprints in Milan and Moscow. One of the coolest things about modern xc ski racing is the ability to bring the races to the people and city sprints like these create an atmosphere that is insane. A lot of the time city sprints can be very fast because of the flat terrain and the narrow courses make it so there are much more crashed and a ton of carnage on the corners and finishing stretches.

Another thing that makes the urban sprinting unique is that as an athlete we have to warm up by running and often times the first time we lock into our skis is right at the start line which can test your balance a little. I personally like that on the World Cup we have a huge variety of venues some in the City, some at standard courses.... it's fun to mix things up a bit.
