had the chance to hike and ski 'kickstep' mountain today outside of Girdwood AK. Now that the race season is over it great to get out and take a few chances but also really enjoy these AK mountains. It was a 4 hour skin and boot pack with epic views at the top. On the way down I have to say it was some of the steepest skiing I've ever done!
One of the best parts about returning home after the world cup season is racing for your home club at the US nationals and super tour finals! this past week in Alaska was a fun week packed with sprint racing, team relays, and of course the final race of the year.. the 50k. I love putting on the SMS colors, our new podium wear suits were epic with our names on the arm and big SMS logos.
The travel schedule has been hectic the last few weeks with World Cups and the annual Tour De Ski .
A new venue for this season was Asiago Italy, which was a sweet town to check out with a technical sprint course right near the city center. It turned out to be a double-pole sprint for the men which is always a lot of fun for me. Sprint racing is always going to throw obstacles your way… in Asiago my ski fell off for the first time in a race which was frustrating. But things were looking up from there.
Last week we started the Tour De Ski in Oberhoff in typical rainy poor snow conditions. Racing on a combination of dirt and slush was interesting and tough but I was stoked so score my first distance points of the season with a 20th place finish in the prologue and my first top ten finish of the season in the Sprint the following day.
